This weeks game against Sandgate FC was a friendly match, Sandgate are two divisions higher than the Carshalton Athletic Greens. This would be a good test for the team.

First half

Both teams started the game with attacking chances. Both keepers dealing with an opening flurry of shots and through balls. Carshalton took the lead after applying pressure from a goal kick. Winning the ball and unleashing a shot from the edge of the area that went in off the post.

Sandgate looked to even the scores and hit the cross bar, after gathering the ball Carshalton launched a quick counter attack and won a free kick well into the Sandgate half. Nothing came of the free kick and Carshalton remained a goal ahead.

Sandgate came close to scoring and were beginning to take control of the game. Carshalton launched a quick counter attacks and had a goal ruled offside and hit the post but Sandgate also had lots of chances. Sandgate did eventually level the scores after winning the ball deep in Charlestons own half.

Two goals quickly followed as Carshalton scored straight from the re-start after a good solo run and finish. Sandgate, not to be outdone scored within 60 seconds of the re-start to level the score at 2-2.

Sandgate now had their tails in the air and mounted attack after attack and eventually took the lead. Carshalton were disappointed to go into half time a goal down.

Second half

From the kick-off of the second half Carshalton looked to attack. Both keepers made fine saves, A long range shot was superbly deflected onto the cross bar by the Sandgate keeper. Sandgate had a one on one chance saved by my boy and hit the post soon afterwards.

Carshalton kept attacking and eventually levelled the scores with a quick counter attack. After keeping pressure on from a shot Sandgate goal kick Carshalton won the ball on the edge of the area and scored off the post. Everyone thought the shot was going wide.

Despite Sandgate becoming more physical Carshalton continued to play good football and scored again to make it 5-3. Attack was certainly the best form of defence.

As the final whistle approached Carshalton won a free kick just outside the area. The free-kick was well taken and went in off the cross bar. The final score was 6-3 to Carshalton who deserved the win against a good team.
