Movement & Catching 2

Layout
Place six round cones in a straight line about 1 step apart. The goalkeeper should stand at one end of the cones.

Instructions
The goalkeeper should move between each cone side to side working their way forward to the end of the line. When they reach the end of the line the coach should serve a ball for the goalkeeper to catch. The coach should stand roughly 3 metres away from the far end of the cones with a supply of footballs. This drill is about perfecting your movement so avoid slapping your feet together and make sure you keep your body facing forwards throughout the drill. The service from the coach should be firm throws / kicks that do not force the keeper into diving saves.

Repetition
Repeat this exercise 6 to 10 times in a single set.

Change It Up
You could introduce the following changes to increase the complexity and challenge of this drill:

  • Add additional activities such as burpees, sit-ups or push ups at the start of the drill.
